College Credit/Prep Steps for Juniors & Seniors
Many colleges recognize the value, effort, and time commitment of the IB Diploma and will compensate students by either automatically awarding them college credit or other awards. If colleges don't recognize the IB Diploma as a whole, they will recognize the individual classes that the students take such as the Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) classes. Most often, college credit is only awarded for HL Classes. However, the benefit to this is that even though credit for SL exams is not guaranteed, the cost for each individual IB exam is far less as compared to the amount of money required for a college credit. If there is a comparable AP Exam to a student's SL class the student may attempt to earn college credit by taking that exam. The IB Credit policies are available on college websites. Using a search engine, simply use the colleges name and IB credit.
